Unless you’ve actually had cancer, you really can’t fully understand what someone suffering from the disease is going through, and what they’ll likely face in the months and years ahead. To live with cancer is to know, deep down, what few can ever truly comprehend.
It’s why, at Evergreen, every one of our volunteers has personal experience fighting cancer – experience that gives them unique insight and understanding that not even the most knowledgeable physicians and nurses have. These are people who have been where you are; who know the fears you might have and the answers to questions you haven’t even thought of yet.
The very word “cancer” tends to evoke a wide range of emotional responses and reactions. For some who are diagnosed with the disease, it becomes a uniquely personal and private experience; others may instead rely on a network of support from friends and family members to help see them through. Yet all have a common need, and that’s hope.
Ultimately, however you choose to face the challenges of cancer, Evergreen’s volunteers are here for one reason alone: you.
